Description:
A 2-hour briefing aimed to increase the understanding of refugees and asylum seekers current landscape, safeguarding and statutory framework.
Learning Outcomes:
- Explaining what a home Office dispersal area is, and that Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire fall in that category and are also refugee relocation areas. Includes some statistics to give a picture of the numbers and backgrounds of people who are part of our communities.
- An overview of traumas experienced and possibility of / actual ongoing risks and harms, e.g., human trafficking / modern slavery, homelessness, domestic abuse, spirit / witchcraft abuse.
- How the above lived experiences connect with Safeguarding legislation and government guidance for protection. Highlighting the key statutory and non-statutory roles in promoting safety and wellbeing.
