This course is available for people working with children and families in Stoke-on-Trent. For those working with children and families outside of Stoke-on-Trent, please contact your local Safeguarding Children Partnership.

Participants must have undertaken Level 1 Child Protection training before attending this course.

This course will update your Level 2 certificate to continue to be the Designated/Deputy Safeguarding Lead in your organisation for another 2 years.

 

TRAINING COST:

The cost to attend this Level 3 course is:

  • £50 per person
    (With the exception of the three statutory safeguarding partners (Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Health and Staffordshire Police), voluntary, faith, charitable and community interest company organisations).

 

This event is designed to offer an opportunity for professionals to highlight the risks associated with the use of technologies.

  • Have an awareness of the risk factors associated with internet use, mobile phones and the Darknet.
  • Understand the types of technologies which are available to harm and abuse children and young people.
  • Have an increased understanding of technological communications: e.g., MSN, SMS, blogging, chat rooms, peer to peer.
  • Definition of the Dark Web, Deep Web and Open Web
  • How the Dark Web can be accessed – What is TOR**
  • The reasons why a young person might want to access the Dark Web
  • What to do if a young person has accessed the Dark Web
  • Have an awareness of behaviours used by perpetrators on the internet to target, groom and abuse.
  • Have an awareness of safety and educational strategies aimed at minimising risk.
  • Understand how children and young people can protect themselves.
  • Understand when to make a referral and to whom.
