A half-day workshop aimed to increase the understanding of asylum seekers and refugees and how multi agency working can impact on children, young people, and their families.

Learning Outcomes:

  • An understanding of how legislation and safeguarding principles relate to asylum seekers and refugees.

  • How language affects the way people are seen and treated.

  • An understanding of children, young people and their families lived experiences (includes cultural aspects; human trafficking; family loss; impacts on physical, emotional, and mental health; barriers to support; language concerns; interpreters / translators.)

  • To promote the importance of multi-agency working and cooperation.

  • Being trauma informed when working with asylum seeking and refugee children, young people, and their families.

  • Workforce wellbeing – burnout, self-care and building emotional resilience.

  • To understand your own agency's procedures and principles of practice within the context of asylum seekers and refugees

  • To understand the SSCB Escalation Policy
